What is PCI Compliance?

Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) was developed by Visa and the four other founding payment brands of the PCI Security Standards Council, including American Express, Discover Financial Services, JCB International and MasterCard Worldwide. PCI DSS was created to establish a comprehensive set of international security principles and requirements for enhancing payment account data security.

PCI Compliance is a two part process the first of which is a self-assessed survey of your business practices. The second part is for businesses that sell products though their websites while accepting credit cards and involves a security scan of their website several times per year.
